What inspires me?
Kids inspire me. Literally un-ADULT-erated, they are our purest forms of being—before culture, prejudice and invisible principles contaminate us. Ever sit in amazement at how an infant can go from manic to normal in virtually seconds? They are unattached from emotion except in that moment. Human beings are the ONLY creatures who have the ability to consciously switch their stress on/off. Every other creature adheres to fight or flight. We get all worked up essentially for no reason—in anticipation of something that may or may not even happen, which ends up causing all kinds of things like heart disease, cancer, etc. I am an avid self-help book reader, and since reading The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz and The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra, I’ve been making a conscious effort to decondition myself of all the mess ADULT-ing brings. In the former book, Ruiz talks about how nothing exists except the truth, everything else is just an agreement such as your name, your ethnicity, etc. Those things are what we’ve come to know them as simply because you, your parents, your friends and everyone else have agreed to it. In Chopra’s book, it talks about how we’re either existing for self, or for the approval of others. I guess that’s why kids say the darnedest things, because they haven’t been conditioned to be anything. They are just BEing…honest, living in truth. As a whole, I’m not sure if my efforts are working, but at least I try. And try I will everyday.
